
Josep Domenech
Josep Domenech has a multidisciplinary background in Business Studies, Economics and Computer Engineering. He is Professor of Applied Economics at the Valencia Polytechnic University (UPV). Before joining the UPV in 2009, he was Assistant Professor at the University of Valencia in the area of Computer Architecture and Technology.
Both his teaching and research activities are consistent with his multidisciplinary background. On the one hand, he teaches Digital Economics to Business Administration students and Economic and Social Behavior to Data Science students. On the other hand, most of the research projects in which he participates combine both economics and Internet technologies.
Josep Domenech has participated in the development of 19 research projects, being the principal investigator of 7 of them. The result is 61 contributions to conferences, 25 articles published in journals indexed in the JCR, 16 research books published and 7 book chapters authored by him. He is also the author of an international patent.
The impact of his research is also multidisciplinary, reflecting his broad and varied background. From an academic point of view, Josep Domenech has been invited as a keynote speaker to share his knowledge on the convergence of Big Data methods and economics at several conferences and meetings, such as the 4POINT0 on Policies, Practices and Processes Related to the Performance of Innovation Ecosystems (Canada); the GfK we.create conference, and the TISGPS congress (China). His paper on Big Data sources and methods for economic analysis is a key reference in the field and received a "Highly Cited Paper" citation from Clarivate's Web of Science. He has published in leading journals such as Technological Forecasting & Social Change, Annals of Operations Research, Economics Letters, Journal of Business Research and Expert System with Applications.
His research has also reached out to institutions and companies. His collaborations include the Joint Research Centre (JRC) of the European Commission, Eurostat, BigML, Devstat, GfK, Lidl, Kritisch Denken, SOWISO, the Instituto Valenciano de Investigaciones Económicas (IVIE) and the Generalitat Valenciana.
In his teaching work, he has been a guest lecturer on master's degree courses in Mexico and Bolivia, as well as a guest speaker at specialized workshops in Sri Lanka and Tanzania. He has also received the award for teaching excellence, granted by the Social Council of the UPV and the Generalitat Valenciana.
